- Quartz vs. MarbleChoose quartz for any bathroom that gets daily hard use: it never needs sealing and does not etch. Choose marble only if you accept that it will etch and patina, and want the depth of veining that no engineered surface reproduces.
- Porcelain vs. CeramicPorcelain absorbs under 0.5% water and belongs on floors and in showers. Ceramic is cheaper and easier to cut, and is fine on walls outside the wet area. In a shower, the difference is not cosmetic.
- Tub vs. ShowerKeep at least one bathtub in the house if you have or expect small children, or if it is the only tub — that affects resale. Beyond that, converting a rarely used tub to a walk-in shower is the better daily-use decision for most households.
- Curbless vs. CurbedA curbless shower needs the shower floor recessed below the surrounding floor. On a slab that means cutting and re-pouring; on a raised floor it means modifying joists. Feasibility, not budget, is usually the deciding factor.
- Chrome vs. BrassChrome is the most durable and forgiving finish anywhere, and the cheapest to replace. Brushed brass reads warmer and hides water spots better than polished finishes, but locks you into a warmer palette. On soft water — which is most of this service area — the durability gap between them matters far less than it would elsewhere.
